Coverage and material allowance
Roofing Insulation Calculator
Calculate a practical coverage quantity with a 10% cutting allowance, then compare insulation types and nominal R-values.
Planning notes
Choosing insulation for Sydney
Sydney sits in climate zone 5 along the coastal strip, although parts of Greater Sydney can differ. The right insulation level also depends on construction type, roof colour, ventilation, condensation management and the performance of the complete roof and ceiling system.
R-value describes resistance to heat flow. Higher values generally provide greater resistance, but the product rating is not the same as the total R-value of the complete building assembly. NSW BASIX and the National Construction Code set project-specific requirements.
This calculator uses a generic 12 m² pack or roll coverage and indicative material allowances from the supplied implementation. Check actual product coverage and obtain professional advice before purchasing or installing insulation.
